Alpaca start-up wins new investors

Weich Couture Alpaca can attract the ex-Hermès CEO and the founder of DeinHandy as backers.

Start-up Weich Couture Alpaca has successfully closed its seed funding round. The company, which focuses on luxury textiles made from alpaca wool, was able to attract long-time Hermès CEO Christina Rosenberg, among others, as an investor. She is currently a member of the supervisory boards of Hugo Boss and Villeroy & Boch. Also present is Robert Emrich, founder of the start-ups DeinHandy and OnTruck. Already on board as a business angel since the end of 2019 is Peter Pohlmann. He is the founder of the well-known furniture discounter Poco.

"We are very pleased to have won Christina and Robert as investors with important strategic intersections. Despite difficult conditions, we have managed to successfully launch our brand and build an exclusive retailer network over the last 12 months. We will now drive the further development of the company with the goal of becoming the leading European luxury brand for alpaca," writes Jannik Weich, CEO and co-founder of Weich Couture Alpaca, in a recent company release.

The start-up wants to earn money with luxury articles made of alpaca wool. These will include exclusive home textiles as well as accessories. The still young company also advertises that everything is made from "sustainable alpaca". At the end of 2019, namesake Jannik Weich founded the start-up and has since begun to build up the production network. Since 2020, the company has been selling its products through the KaDeWe Group and online, among others. Since the beginning of 2021, it has also had its own store in Frankfurt am Main.
