Amiral Gestion doubles stake in Westwing

With now ten percent, the asset manager is the second largest shareholder of the furniture company.

The asset manager Amiral Gestion, which is based in France, is now the second-largest shareholder in the furniture start-up Westwing. Its shares doubled from around five percent to ten percent. Only the Samwers hold significantly more shares, at 29 percent.

These purchases take place in the context of the announced Home24 takeover by XXXLutz. Here, too, both Amiral Gestion (4.8 percent) and the Samwers (6.1 percent) held shares. Since then, speculation arose around Westwing - the company was considered the next takeover candidate.

Westwing was founded in Munich in 2011 and has been able to increase sales almost continuously since then. In 2020 and 2021 in particular, the group also benefited from the general boom in the industry in the wake of the lockdowns. While sales totaled 267 million euros in 2019, they were already 433 million in 2020. In 2021, sales were 522 million euros - 240 of them in Germany alone.
