The robotics incubator robo.innovate at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) has received further funding. The Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs is providing 3.5 million euros over the next three and a half years. In addition, NEURA Robotics is joining as a sponsor for the first time.

In the first funding phase (2022-2025), the start-ups supported by robo.innovate already raised a total of 52 million euros in investments.

Incubator for robotics and AI start-ups

robo.innovate was founded at the end of 2021 at the Munich Institute of Robotics and Machine Intelligence (MIRMI). The aim is to support start-up teams from the idea to the prototype to the marketable product.

Among other things, the incubator offers access to office space, workshops in the UnternehmerTUM MakerSpace, industry-specific hackathons, workshops and the SPICE networking event, where selected experts from robotics and AI are brought together with start-up teams.

Over 100 start-ups supported

More than 100 start-ups have been supported so far, with around half of the teams going on to found their own company. The supported start-ups include Hula Earth, Angsa Robotics and Olive Robotics.

Complex, intelligent robotics should come from Germany. That's why we support those who want to shape the future of this technology with new ideas and entrepreneurial courage.

David Reger, CEO and founder of NEURA Robotics

Prof. Eckehard Steinbach, co-initiator of robo.innovate and board member of TUM MIRMI, emphasizes the role of the incubator as an interface between university research, industry, investors and public funding bodies.

Signal for Bavaria as a business location

With the extension of the funding until June 30, 2029, the total volume increases to over 7 million euros. Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger sees this as an important boost for the future fields of robotics and AI as well as for Bavaria as a location for innovation.

David Reger, founder and CEO of NEURA Robotics, also emphasizes the importance of intelligent robotics made in Germany and sees robo.innovate as an ideal platform for promoting entrepreneurial talent at an early stage.
