Berlin remains start-up capital

The metropolis can hold its own ahead of London or Amsterdam, according to its own economic development agency.
Berlin can continue to call itself the European capital of startups, at least according to its own economic development agency. In its half-year report, the latter found that 3.25 billion euros in investments flowed into Berlin startups in the first six months of 2022 alone, a decline from the record year of 2021, reports the Tagesspiegel .
Berlin Partner CEO Stefan Franzke chalked up the figure: "Berlin was able to defend its title as startup capital." According to him, the German capital remains in first place, ahead of metropolises such as London, Barcelona, Lisbon and even Amsterdam.
What place Berlin actually occupies in international rankings varies greatly, depending on the survey. As recently as June, another study concluded that Berlin only came in 16th place - and behind Amsterdam, among others. At the time, Startup Genome evaluated not only investment capital, but also market reach, networking and the number of qualified workers in the cities.
