The League of Legends developer invests in Stratosphere Games. The start-up has raised a total of over three million euros.
The Berlin-based online games developer Stratosphere Games has raised more than three million euros from various investors from the gaming scene, according to Gründerszene and Games Wirtschaft report. The capital comes from Riot Games, the developer of the well-known game League of Legends, among others.
The 1Up Ventures fund, existing investor Skycatcher and the German Federal Ministry of Economics also participated. The latter is said to have injected more than one million euros. The money will go towards the development of the cooperative online shooter called Desolation, which takes place in a post-apocalyptic science fiction world.
Stratosphere Games was founded in 2015 by Kristian Metzger and employs 67 people. The aim is to have 100 by the end of 2023. In the fall, the start-up plans to release the space game Homeworld Mobile together with US developer Gearbox Publishing, as well as the historical strategy game Dawn of Ages. Stratosphere has received more than half a million euros from the German government for the development of both games.
