capacura GmbH announces its investment in StudyFriends GmbH, a young education company that aims to combat educational inequality in Germany with a scalable, school-based tutoring model. The Cologne-based impact VC is investing in StudyFriends as part of its portfolio for socially effective, sustainable innovations.

Education for all, regardless of social background

StudyFriends focuses on an inclusive, low-threshold tutoring service that is implemented directly in cooperation with schools and public institutions. The focus is on children and young people from low-income families, who have often been excluded from traditional tutoring in the past.

The services offered directly at the schools range from intensive vacation courses to regular support formats during the school year and individual support. Funding is provided by government programs such as "Startchancen" or "Bildung und Teilhabe (BuT)". StudyFriends takes care of the entire funding administration, which is a major relief for schools and parents.

Socially effective, operationally efficient

The company addresses an acute problem in the German education system: according to recent studies, around one million children have no access to affordable tutoring. Many existing offers are too expensive, not sustainable and hardly geared towards the needs of disadvantaged children.

StudyFriends combines social relevance with economic viability: the model is digitally supported, has a modular structure and can be scaled regionally. The focus is particularly on children with a migration background and a lack of German language skills.
