The Berlin-based defense tech startup Project Q has closed a seed financing round of 7.5 million euros. The round was led by Project A, with Expeditions Fund and Superangel also participating. The capital will be used for the further development of the open sensor platform Q-OSP, the expansion of the team and initial implementation projects with European armed forces and authorities.

With its approach, Project Q combines commercial technologies and open standards with mission-relevant applications in the security and defense sector. The aim is to strengthen technological sovereignty in Europe through rapidly deployable, interoperable systems.

Networked sensor technology meets AI integration

The core product of Project Q is the Q-Open Source Platform (Q-OSP). This is a modular infrastructure platform that seamlessly connects existing sensors, data sources and systems. By using artificial intelligence, Q-OSP analyzes data in real time, creates precise situation reports and supports operational decisions in safety-critical environments.

Thanks to its open system architecture and modular interfaces, Q-OSP can be integrated into existing infrastructures, even using commercially available technology (COTS). The aim is to create ready-to-use solutions that can be put into operation more quickly than conventional defense systems.

Internet of Defense

The Internet of Defense (IoD) is at the heart of Project Q's approach. This is a strategic transfer of commercial technologies (e.g. from the areas of IoT, AI, cloud) into security-relevant applications.

A standardized platform that combines sensor and system data across domains and is also open to existing infrastructures - this is exactly the kind of deep tech that turns complexity into actionability.

Uwe Horstmann, General Partner at lead investor Project A

The company sees itself not only as a technology provider, but also as a bridge builder between civilian innovation dynamics and military use cases. Project Q aims to create a systemic regulatory framework, particularly in view of the increasing technical complexity and growing volumes of data in the field of unmanned systems.

The investors, Expeditions Fund and Superangel, also see Q as a promising building block for a sovereign European defense technology.

Scaling with partners from the public sector

Project Q pursues an application-oriented development approach right from the start. The platform is being developed and tested in close cooperation with European security and defense authorities. The first partnerships and projects are already being implemented.

Modern defense needs faster innovation cycles, interoperable systems and the ability to transfer scalable technologies into real-life deployment scenarios.

Leonard Wessendorff, CEO and co-founder of Project Q

Project Q was founded in Berlin in 2024. The startup combines sensor technology, AI and system integration to create a scalable backbone for modern security and defense systems. The focus is on an open platform design that integrates different technological domains and makes them uniformly usable.
