The Prague-based industrial tech startup Edmund has closed a financing round of 2.5 million euros. The round is led by FORWARD.one, with participation from University2Ventures and Tensor Ventures.

Edmund intends to use the capital to scale its AI-based platform internationally and roll it out in Europe and the USA.

AI to combat skills shortages and increasing complexity

The manufacturing industry is facing structural challenges, with increasing system complexity and a growing shortage of qualified engineers. In Europe, tens of thousands of jobs are already unfilled, while a significant proportion of the workforce will retire in the coming years.

Edmund is addressing this problem with an AI-supported debugging platform that brings together technical knowledge from documentation, maintenance logs and machine data. The aim is to make knowledge available and reduce downtimes.

Significantly faster fault diagnosis

At its heart is a system of AI agents that identifies the causes of faults and provides step-by-step solutions. Unlike traditional chatbots, the platform is directly integrated into operational processes.

The effect:

  • Diagnostic times are reduced from hours or days to minutes
  • Analysis phases are reduced by up to 90%
  • Overall downtimes are significantly reduced

A practical example. At industrial customer Amcor Flexibles, the repair time was reduced by 26%, with savings of around 440 working hours per plant and year. Although this certainly does not yet replace the manpower of an engineer, it is at least a start.

Focus on international growth

Founded in 2023, the company plans to use the fresh capital to expand its team and expand into international markets. The platform is deliberately designed to be hardware-independent and can be integrated into existing industrial systems.

The challenge is not a lack of data, but a lack of context. Our AI understands machines at an operational level and enables immediate action.

High economic pressure in the industry

The relevance of such solutions is growing. According to Siemens, unplanned downtime accounts for around 11% of the turnover of large industrial companies, or around 1.4 trillion US dollars annually worldwide. Against this backdrop, AI-supported systems such as Edmund could play a central role in the next phase of industrial transformation.
