German Bionic receives 15 million euros

Dressing robots are to support employees in logistics and care in physically strenuous activities. This has now convinced the European Investment Bank.
The Augsburg-based start-up German Bionic raises 15 million euros. The company is receiving the capital in the form of a venture debt loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB). The company will use the new financing to further develop its AI-based human-machine systems.
"Our intelligent power suits protect people who perform hard physical work in system-critical positions every day from overload and accidents," says Armin G. Schmidt, CEO and co-founder of German Bionic. He founded the company in 2016 with Michael Halbherr and Peter Heiligensetzer. The power suits developed can be used in both logistics and care. The aim is to relieve employees and prevent absences from work by providing mechanical support when lifting and carrying. The suits also contain an assistance system that warns employees if they are lifting in an ergonomically incorrect way or if they need to take a break.
The current version of the power suit offers lifting support of up to 30 kilograms. The start-up plans to launch new products in early 2023.
