Johnson Electric acquires Pendix

Together, the two companies want to develop a new mid-mounted motor for e-bikes.
Johnson Electric is taking over Pendix GmbH, based in Zwickau. In the course of the takeover, Technologiegründerfonds Sachsen (TGFS) also sold its shares, which had already accompanied the start-up since the seed phase.
Johnson Electric is a supplier of electric motors and related electromechanical components. With its investment in Pendix, the company aims to enter the e-bike market. "Together we see great potential to develop sustainable drive solutions for bicycle manufacturers and to offer them in the future," says Andrea Straniero, Division Vice President IPG Europe at Johnson Electric. Together, the two companies now intend to develop a new, integrated mid-mounted motor for bicycle manufacturers, which is scheduled for market launch in 2025.
"With Johnson Electric, we are securing the company's long-term future by expanding the product range," says Thomas Herzog, CEO and co-founder of Pendix. The company, founded in 2013, has developed a retrofit drive for bicycles that is designed to turn any bike into an e-bike. According to its own information, the company produces its product exclusively in Germany.
