Together, the two companies want to develop a new mid-motor for e-bikes.

Johnson Electric is taking over Pendix GmbH, which is based in Zwickau. As part of the takeover, Technologiegründerfonds Sachsen (TGFS), which has been supporting the start-up since the seed phase, has also sold its shares.

Johnson Electric is a supplier of electric motors and related electromechanical components. With the investment in Pendix, the company wants to create access to the e-bike market. "Together, we see great potential to develop and offer sustainable drive solutions for bicycle manufacturers in the future," says Andrea Straniero, Division Vice President IPG Europe at Johnson Electric. Together, the two companies now want to develop a new, integrated mid-motor for bicycle manufacturers, which is set to be launched on the market in 2025.

"With Johnson Electric, we are securing the long-term future of the company by expanding the product range," says Thomas Herzog, CEO and co-founder of Pendix. Founded in 2013, the company has developed a retrofit drive for bicycles that is designed to turn any bike into an e-bike. According to its own information, the company produces its product exclusively in Germany.
