Mirantus Health raises 5.5 million euros
The Berlin-based HealthTech startup Mirantus Health has successfully completed a seed financing round of 5.5 million euros. The company's aim is to roll out the "mira" software platform, which enables eye checks in opticians' stores, across the German-speaking region.
Software platform for faster eye checks
The "mira" platform allows opticians to carry out retinal images, intraocular pressure measurements, slit lamp images, refraction data and visual acuity tests on site. The data collected is forwarded digitally to ophthalmologists, who produce an evaluation report within 24 to 48 hours. This shows the person examined whether there are any abnormalities that should be clarified by a doctor. The report does not replace a diagnosis, but is intended to provide early indications of potential problems and thus reduce long-term follow-up costs in the healthcare system.
Expansion of a network for rapid further care
In the event of abnormalities, patients can be treated quickly by regional ophthalmologists. Mirantus Health has a network of more than 400 partner ophthalmologists to help patients find appointments and provide low-threshold care. The service complements the existing channels via the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians and thus relieves the burden on existing practices.
Financing and investors
The seed round was supported by the Berlin VC funds Revent and Redstone, the British investor Entrepreneur First, the Dutch impact investor Noaber, Arve Capital and the telemedicine pioneers Kai Eberhardt (Oviva) and Katharina Jünger (TeleClinic), among others. The capital will primarily be used for the DACH-wide rollout of "mira" and the further development of the software.
Current status and growth plans
"mira" is already active in over 200 locations in Germany. Mirantus Health plans to expand the service to more than 1,000 locations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland by 2027. The company is responding to increasing bottlenecks in ophthalmological care caused by demographic change: around 30% of ophthalmologists in Germany are over 60 years old and about to retire, while the demand for consultations is increasing at the same time.
Anyone who has ever tried to get an appointment as a statutory health insurance patient will probably know exactly what problem the start-up is addressing.
