Noxon closes seed financing for muscle computer interface
The MedTech start-up Noxon has closed a multi-million euro seed financing round. The financing is led by High-Tech Gründerfonds and Bayern Kapital, with the participation of Auxxo and another institutional investor. The capital will be used for the further development, clinical certification and market launch of a wearable, non-invasive muscle computer interface (MCI), which is intended to make muscles usable as a digital interface for the first time.
Muscles as a programmable interface
Noxon's technology combines continuous muscle diagnostics with neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) in a wearable suitable for everyday use. Through a closed feedback loop of real-time measurement and personalized activation, muscle and nerve signals can be precisely analyzed and specifically influenced.
The aim is not only to measure human movement, but also to control it therapeutically, for example to:
- Reduction of tremor in Parkinson's disease
- Restoring motor functions after paralysis
- Prevention of muscle atrophy in rehabilitation
- Performance analysis in elite sport
Continuous therapy instead of selective diagnostics
Up to now, muscle analyses and activation treatments have mostly been carried out in isolation in clinical settings. As a result, there is a lack of continuous data on the course of therapy in everyday life. Noxon aims to close this gap in care by permanently integrating diagnostics and therapy into wearable systems. The platform can be seamlessly embedded in existing products such as bandages, tapes or orthopaedic aids.
For pilot applications, the company is working with the University Hospital of Würzburg and neuroscientific research partners, among others. The focus is on applications in which the signal transmission between brain and muscle is disturbed.
Platform approach targets large healthcare market
As a modular technology platform, Noxon is targeting a global market of more than 1.1 billion people with muscle-related or neuromuscular diseases. In addition to traditional rehabilitation applications, the company sees potential in wearable medtech, digital therapy support and data-driven movement analysis.
