Official launch of Nect Ident with ePassport

With its "Nect Ident with ePassport" procedure, the Hamburg-based TrustTech company Nect is now the first and so far only remote identification procedure to be approved by gematik (National Agency for Digital Medicine in Germany) for the telematics infrastructure (TI) in the German healthcare system. gematik's decision has been in force since August 1, 2025 and initially concerns digital registration for the electronic health card (eGK) and identity confirmation for online health insurance company branches.

Health ID as the key to the ePA and e-prescription

In a next step, the procedure will also be used to create the HealthID. This is the digital proof of identity for sensitive healthcare applications such as ePA (electronic patient file), e-prescription or the planned TI messenger. gematik already officially lists the Nect procedure on its website under the name Nect ePassport.

Closing the digital gap

The release comes at the right time. Since the video ID procedure was banned in 2022, only the eID of the German ID card remained as a permissible identification method. However, only around 25% of insured persons are able to use it at all, for example due to a missing PIN or lack of activation.

This is where Nect ePass closes the existing gap. The solution works with ID cards from all EU countries and passports from over 180 countries, without the need for a PIN. This opens up access to digital healthcare for over five million EU citizens living in Germany.
