Online supermarket Oda launches in Germany

The Norwegian unicorn wants to start in Berlin from January 2023. The company is building its logistics center in Mittenwalde for this purpose.
The Norwegian online supermarket Oda is coming to Germany. After just under a year of building its logistics center, the startup plans to launch a test phase in Berlin starting in January. Oda will then make 9,000 groceries available for delivery. This includes fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy products, meat and baked goods, as well as frozen products and household items.
"With Oda, we are competing against the stationary supermarket in Berlin and showing that there is another way to do the weekly shopping to supply the entire family, which fits much more seamlessly into the daily routine than the usual trip to the supermarket, and additionally helps to save time," says Malte Nousch, Managing Director of Oda Germany. Berlin is a good starting point for the German market, he says, as there is already a high affinity for delivery services there.
Founded in 2013, the company has developed a logistics platform that aims to optimize all steps in the supply chain. This is done with the help of automation and machine learning. Among other things, Oda uses robots to help goods enter and leave logistics centers. The company claims to be Norway's first unicorn and to generate annual sales of €250 million. Investors include Softbank, Prosus and Kinnevik.
