The Leipzig-based startup has raised more than 1 million euros in growth capital in a recent financing round. The company intends to use the investment to further develop its AI agents for the hotel industry and tap into the European market. The aim is to support hotels in coping with the acute shortage of skilled workers and to automate guest communication processes.

AI as the answer to the skills shortage

The hotel industry is one of the sectors suffering the most from staff shortages. According to the latest figures, 84 percent of German businesses are affected and more than half of guests are already experiencing restrictions. This is precisely where Onsai comes in: With autonomous AI employees who are available around the clock, the start-up helps hotels to answer calls, manage reservations and handle everyday inquiries independently.

I used to stand at reception myself when the phone was ringing off the hook and guests wanted to check in at the same time. Today, our AI takes on exactly these tasks...

Founders and investors

Onsai was founded in 2024 by former hoteliers Ralf Bonin, Christian Müller and Tobias Koehler and AI specialist Jochen Emig. The team combines practical experience from the hotel industry with technological expertise.

The financing round is led by the VC fund SIVentures, with additional business angels from the hospitality and technology industry, including former Radisson CEO Wolfgang M. Neumann and Willem van der Zee, Director of Operations at Pandox.

Industry in transition

Onsai intends to use the fresh funds to expand its product portfolio, connect new hotel systems and expand the team. The focus is also on international market expansion.

This investment is far more than just capital, it is a vote of confidence from partners who want to work with us to advance the digital employee for the hospitality industry.

Jochen Emig, CEO Onsai

A recent study by Prof. Roland Schegg shows that only 41% of European hotels are actively using AI. The increasing shortage of skilled workers is the main reason that is turning digital assistants from a nice to have to a strategic must.

The hotel industry is still lagging behind in the practical application of AI, although the demand is enormous.

Hotel groups such as McDreams Hotels and Homaris are already using the technology. Initial results show: Operating costs are reduced by up to a third, employees are significantly relieved. Over the next twelve months, Onsai plans to release further AI agents and drive expansion beyond Europe.
