Munich-based deeptech Orbem has successfully closed a Series B financing round of 55.5 million euros. The round was led by Dutch deeptech investor Innovation Industries, with participation from Supernova Invest and existing investors such as General Catalyst, 83North and The Venture Collective. The capital will be used to scale Orbem's technologies globally, accelerate its entry into the US market and open up new application areas in the food and healthcare industries.

AI and MRI for non-invasive analysis of biological materials

We are the first and so far only company in the world to enable the use of MRI in less than a second and without human intervention.

Dr. Pedro Gómez, co-founder and CEO of Orbem

Orbem combines MRI sensor technology with vertical artificial intelligence to analyze biological materials in depth and non-invasively. This enables quick insights that were previously difficult to access. Orbem is already one of the leading providers in the poultry industry: With the Genus Focus, eggs can be analyzed for the sex of the embryo within seconds. This is an animal-friendly alternative to killing male chicks. Over 170 million eggs have already been scanned. Genus Scale also allows hatcheries to determine the fertilization status of eggs before incubation, reducing food waste and opening up additional revenue streams.

Global expansion and new fields of application

The fresh capital will support the following strategic goals:

  • US market: expand presence in Houston, Texas, and introduce proven poultry solutions.
  • Expanded poultry platform: Scaling existing products and developing new solutions.
  • Crop agricultural products: Non-destructive analysis of fruits such as avocados, mangoes or watermelons to ensure quality and reduce waste.
  • Healthcare: Building a comprehensive biological data set that enables AI-supported applications for human medicine.

Few companies succeed in making such a complex technology accessible and scalable for so many industries.

Orbem, the Inside Out Company

Orbem combines MRI and AI to visualize invisible biological information; from eggs to plants to the human body. The technology enables data-based decisions, increases quality and transparency and reduces waste along the entire production chain. In this way, Orbem is contributing to a more sustainable and healthier future.
