Reflex Aerospace secures record €50 million Series A
The Berlin-based satellite company Reflex Aerospace has closed a Series A financing round of 50 million euros - the largest financing round of its kind in the European new space sector to date.
The round was led by Human Element together with Alpine Space Ventures, Bayern Kapital, High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) and other German and European investors. The fresh capital is intended to accelerate the development, production and deployment of high-performance satellite platforms for reconnaissance (ISR), communications and signal intelligence.
Sovereign satellites for Europe's strategic autonomy
Reflex Aerospace is developing satellite constellations to secure Europe's access to space-based reconnaissance and communications. The company plans to have all systems operational and in orbit by 2027.
Europe cannot afford to remain dependent on space-based reconnaissance. We act now!
Walter Ballheimer, CEO Reflex Aerospace
Part of the capital will be used to expand production capacities in Bavaria in order to make production scalable. The aim is to manufacture satellite platforms for military and civilian applications independently, quickly and flexibly and Made in Europe.
Europe's drive for independence in space
The funding comes at a strategically important time: the EU is preparing the European Space Shield Initiative for 2026, while in September the German Federal Ministry of Defense announced around 35 billion euros for space-related defence projects up to 2030.
Reflex's flexible architecture makes it possible to quickly meet the growing demand for reconnaissance and communication in Europe.
Christian Sullivan, Managing Partner at Human Element
Defense Minister Boris Pistorius recently described satellite networks as the"Achilles heel of modern societies". Reflex Aerospace is thus positioning itself as a key partner in Europe's efforts to ensure sovereignty and security in orbit.
Faster satellite production without mega-factories
The company relies on a modular, payload-centered architecture that enables fast development cycles without the need for expensive mega-factories. In future, satellites will be produced within months instead of years.
Reflex launched its first remote sensing satellite into orbit back in January 2025. The upcoming systems will be based on the company's own Praetora platform. It was developed specifically for demanding ISR missions and is fully under European control.
We have been supporting Reflex Aerospace since its extended seed financing round in 2023. Since then, the company has put its Micro Factory in Munich into operation and in January 2025, the first Reflex Aerospace satellite SIGI was launched into space aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from Space X.
Monika Steger, Managing Director of Bayern Kapital
A strong signal for Europe's new space industry
With this financing round, Reflex Aerospace is sending a strong signal for the new space market in Europe. The expansion of sovereign space capacities is increasingly becoming a geopolitical issue and an industrial opportunity. Positive news from the German start-up scene has been increasing over the last two years, particularly in the New Space sector. Perhaps there are new, long-term opportunities for the future of German industry.
