The healthtech startup roclub, provider of a teleoperation platform for medical technology, has closed a Series A financing round of 11.7 million US dollars. The round was led by Smedvig Ventures and YZR Capital, with participation from Speedinvest and several business angels.

The aim of the financing is to accelerate the company's entry into the US market and drive forward the expansion of the marketplace for medical technology specialists.

Teleoperation to combat the skills shortage in medical technology

roclub wants to revolutionize the way medical technology devices are operated. The cloud- and AI-based platform enables remote access and remote control of medical technology devices, regardless of manufacturer and across all device types.

The initial focus is on radiology systems such as MRI and CT, but other areas of healthcare are set to follow in the future. Medical technology specialists will be able to operate several systems at the same time and from any location. This increases the utilization of expensive equipment and prevents downtime, while patients gain faster access to diagnostics.

That's a great idea in principle, but if you're a German patient with health insurance looking for an MRI appointment, you automatically ask yourself where these downtimes are supposed to occur? While the local specialist is already fully booked for months, it sometimes takes weeks or very long journeys to get there via the central appointment system. It's a different story when it comes to staff shortages. Whether regional or due to sickness absence, roclub can score points with its solution.

The roclub Connector

The roclub Connector, barely larger than a smartphone, is connected to medical devices and immediately enables secure remote access. It also integrates video and audio communication between the person on site, remote specialists and patients.

We know from our own experience how the skills shortage is limiting care. roclub ensures that devices remain productive worldwide - through AI-powered remote control and flexible working models for professionals.

Global expansion and marketplace for professionals

Since its founding in 2022, roclub has expanded to eleven countries and already works with some of the largest diagnostic imaging providers in hospitals and practices. With the Series A round, the company now wants to massively expand its US subsidiary. The number of employees there alone is set to more than double by 2026.

"We want to become the global standard for teleoperation in medical technology. By combining medical technology, robotics and AI, we enable precise, collaborative examinations across national borders.

The planned roclub marketplace (launch: end of 2025) will connect healthcare facilities with remote medical technology experts who can operate devices worldwide.

Investors see global potential

"André and Matthias have developed a pioneering solution to a global problem. We are delighted to support them in their expansion into the USA," says Joe Knowles, Partner at Smedvig Ventures. Prof. Reinhard Meier, Managing Director of YZR Capital, adds:"roclub has already proven the added value of its technology in Europe. The positive effect for healthcare will be even greater with the specialist marketplace."

The technology helps hospitals and diagnostic centers to bridge staff shortages, reduce operating costs and provide access to modern diagnostics. In 2024, we had already announced the successful seed round for the start-up.
