The ex-chancellor of Austria starts a new career as an investor. His first target: a medtech.

According to a report by Profil, Austria's former chancellor Sebastian Kurz has made his first start-up investment. The former chancellor bought shares in the Austrian medtech company Medaia GmbH, which was founded in 2019 and is based in Graz.

Customers can use the Skinscreener app to carry out skin cancer screening at home. According to the start-up, the software determines the probability that a lesion in a certain area is cancerous. Users would then have the option of being advised to see a dermatologist unannounced based on this assessment.

Kurz joined Thiel Capital, Peter Thiel's company, in February 2022. He is the co-founder of PayPal and a self-proclaimed Trump supporter. However, there had already been indications of Kurz's own investment ambitions. For example, the Kurier newspaper first reported in July 2022 that Kurz intended to work with former Deutsche Bank Supervisory Board member and Austrian investor Alexander Schütz via AS2K Beteiligungs GmbH.
