Starflight Dynamics receives seven-figure pre-seed

Starflight Dynamics secures seven-figure pre-seed financing and receives capital from Lithuanian VC Coinvest Capital for the first time.

The Munich-based SpaceTech startup Starflight Dynamics (SFDY) has closed a seven-figure pre-seed round. The financing is led by the state-backed Lithuanian VC fund Coinvest Capital, which is investing a relevant amount in a German company for the first time. In addition, several business angels participated, including members of the Space & Defense Committee of the European Business Angel Network (EBAN).

The trust of our investors is both an incentive and a mandate for us. We are now looking forward to taking the next steps - both technologically and strategically.

Dr. Philipp Bauer, CEO Starflight Dynamics

Focus on dual-use space technologies

Founded in 2023 by Dr. Philipp Bauer, Starflight Dynamics pursues the goal of bringing industrial processes into orbit. The start-up is currently focusing on two core technological areas:

  1. Space platforms with a proprietary, water-based propulsion system that is suitable for orbital service, inspection and defense missions, among others.
  2. High-throughput crystallization systems for the production of synthetic semiconductor and quantum substrates, the quality of which is significantly improved by the special conditions of weightlessness.

The technologies are developed exclusively in the European Union and are dual-use capable, meaning they can be used for both civilian and security-related applications. The startup is thus clearly positioning itself in the area of tension between space research and European technological sovereignty.

Strategic investment from Lithuania

For Coinvest Capital, the investment in Starflight Dynamics is a strategic step.

We are proud to support Starflight Dynamics in its bold mission to redefine the possibilities in orbit

Viktorija Trimbel, Managing Director Coinvest Capital

She praises the combination of technical ambition and strategic relevance, which is particularly reflected in the industrialization of space. Coinvest Capital is a 100%ige subsidiary of Investicijų ir Verslo Garantijos (INVEGA), Lithuania's national development bank, and is supported by the Lithuanian Ministry of Finance and EU funds.

Growth plans and orbit demonstrations

Starflight Dynamics intends to use the new capital to accelerate product development. Investments will be made in test set-ups, laboratories, the further development of prototypes and the targeted expansion of the ten-strong team.

The first orbital demonstrations are also planned from 2027. In addition, a new research site is to be established in Vilnius, where materials technology in particular will be further developed. This is to take place in close cooperation with Lithuanian investors.

Between civil research and strategic relevance

Originally started with a focus on material production in microgravity, Starflight Dynamics' technological aspirations have evolved through partnerships (including with the University of the German Armed Forces in Munich). Today, the company pursues the goal of contributing to Europe's sovereignty in orbit with its technologies.
