Tanso receives €6.5 million funding to decarbonize European industry

Munich-based software company Tanso has closed a €6.5 million seed financing. The financing round is led by Cologne-based investor Capnamic, while existing investors such as UVC Partners are expanding their investment.

Tanso provides CO₂ accounting software for European industry, which is under pressure to decarbonize its supply chains. Its ISO-compliant Climate Intelligence software enables the calculation, management and reduction of CO₂ emissions at the company and product level. Back in March 2023, the company received €2.5 million in innovation funding under the European Union's prestigious EIC Accelerator program.

With the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the European Union is expanding the scope of reportable companies to calculate and publish their CO₂ footprint. From 2025, companies with annual sales of more than €40m, total assets of more than €20m or more than 250 employees will have to disclose their CO₂ footprint. The CO₂ footprint is becoming increasingly important and is establishing itself as an important award criterion in corporate purchasing. However, manufacturing companies have difficulty measuring and reducing emissions, which is a major challenge for medium-sized companies in particular.

Especially mid-sized companies, with few resources in sustainability, benefit from the Climate Intelligence Suite.

Tanso's founding team has developed a Climate Intelligence Suite that helps industrial companies manage their decarbonization in a data-driven way and reduce emissions across departments. The company has expanded its offering following €1.6 million in pre-seed funding in October 2021. It now offers "product carbon footprint" calculations for the 3500+ members of the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) to support the effective decarbonization of supply chains
