Trumpf Ventures is investing an undisclosed single-digit million amount in Spanish startup Quside. The corporate venture capital unit of the Trumpf Group invests in early-stage startups whose activities fit with Trumpf core areas such as advanced photonics or smart factory solutions. Quside produces random number generators, a market that Trumpf Ventures expects to be worth between seven and ten billion euros worldwide by 2026.
The company's core product is a high-performance random number generator that uses the quantum mechanical properties of light to quickly produce random number combinations. This can improve message encryption, according to the company. Even powerful quantum computers are said to be unable to crack the encodings. It could also be used, for example, to simulate risk analyses in the financial sector faster and more energy-efficiently than before, according to the company.
Quside was founded in 2018 and employs around 30 people. The startup is based in Castelldefels near Barcelona. The company's customers include companies from sectors with high safety requirements, such as aerospace engineering. Quside also wants to expand into the consumer market to make smartphones, tablets and vehicles more secure with its chips.
