UNIO receives 2.5 million euros in pre-seed funding

UNIO secures EUR 2.5 million in pre-seed funding from space companies including OHB and IABG. The start-up is developing a product for seamless internet connectivity in connected vehicles that will be launched in early 2024.

Munich, Germany, October 30, 2023 - Munich-based start-up UNIO announced today that it has closed a total of €2.5 million in pre-seed funding. The investors in this round are OHB SE, an aerospace and technology group, and IABG, an established European technology company with experience in aerospace. In addition, SES and Reflex Aerospace are involved, having already invested as founding partners of the UNIO joint venture together with Mynaric and Isar Aerospace.

UNIO is focused on creating seamless connectivity for connected vehicles by linking terrestrial and satellite networks. The funding received will be invested in the development and launch of the UNIO Bridge product. This product enables a smooth transition between 5G networks and satellite connectivity to ensure end-to-end internet connectivity.

UNIO comes at just the right time to cover the growing market for customized space applications.

The UNIO bridge product is expected to find applications in various industries, including logistics and agriculture. The first products are scheduled to be delivered to a major customer in early 2024, with a full market launch planned for the third quarter of 2024.

The demand for Earth observation data and seamless 5G SatCom connectivity is increasing in several areas. UNIO provides a solution by combining various elements in its ecosystem - from satellite construction and launch capabilities to laser and RF connectivity and satellite operations.

The pre-seed funding strengthens UNIO's position and enables further development of its product to improve connectivity in connected vehicles. UNIO, a new-space company, was founded in Munich in 2022. A joint venture between Isar Aerospace, Reflex Aerospace, Mynaric and SES, UNIO combines expertise from leading players in satellite communications. Its goal is to build Europe's first commercial satellite constellation for fast and secure connectivity, especially in the mobility and logistics sectors, but also for B2B and B2G communications.
