VÆRIDION successful with €14 million Series A

VÆRIDION is the first e-Aviation company to reach an EASA certification milestone and plans zero-emission regional flights by 2030
Munich, December 19, 2024 - Munich-based startup VÆRIDION, which specializes in the development of zero-emission electric aircraft, has successfully closed its Series A financing round. With capital totaling 14 million euros from the round and an additional 1.4 million euros in funding from German and Bavarian institutions, the company is making further progress towards sustainable aviation.
Demand for air transportation is expected to more than double by 2040. We urgently need sustainable alternatives, and VÆRIDION has the potential to meet this challenge.
Daria Saharova, General Partner at World Fund
The Series A was led by World Fund, Europe's leading venture capital investor in climate technologies. Other investors include Project A Ventures, Vsquared Ventures, Andreas Kupke, Schwarz Holding and InnovationQuarter. The funds will be invested primarily in the further development of the Microliner, the expansion of the team and commercialization.
Next step in certification
In addition to the funding, VÆRIDION is the first company in the general aviation sector to conclude a Pre-Application Contract (PAC) with the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). This milestone certifies that the Microliner meets the stringent standards for commercial passenger aircraft and marks significant progress towards type certification.
VÆRIDION is the first advanced aviation company to achieve this important step. This shows that the team is well on its way to commercialization.
Dr. Herbert Mangesius, General Partner at Vsquared Ventures
Microliner as a solution for regional air transportation
The Microliner from VÆRIDION is an electrically powered, zero-emission regional aircraft designed as a nine-seater. It has a range of 400 kilometers plus IFR reserves and was specially developed for short distances within Europe. The Microliner is not only environmentally friendly, but also quiet and is ideal for smaller airfields in underserved regions.
With planned ticket prices on a par with first-class seats on a high-speed train, VÆRIDION aims to make aviation more accessible and sustainable. The first test flights with prototypes are scheduled to start in 2027, with commercial operations planned for 2030.
A strong network and international partnerships
VÆRIDION has already gained commercial partners in Denmark, Benelux and Germany, including Copenhagen AirTaxi, ASL Group and Aero-Dienst. In addition, the company opened a subsidiary in the Netherlands in 2024 to benefit from its proximity to Delft University of Technology and its innovation environment.
With the Microliner, we are addressing the growing demand for zero-emission travel options while improving regional connectivity. Our goal is to usher in a new era of sustainable and affordable aviation.
Ivor van Dartel, Co-Founder and CEO VÆRIDION
The startup currently employs 38 experts from the fields of aviation, software and automotive and cooperates with renowned research institutions such as the Technical University of Munich and Bauhaus Luftfahrt e.V.
The aviation industry is facing the challenge of reducing its carbon footprint while demand continues to rise. According to McKinsey, the market for regional flights could reach a value of 115 billion US dollars by 2035 and serve 700 million passengers annually. VÆRIDION sees a huge opportunity in this market.
