Zalando apparently sets its sights on Flaconi

According to insiders, the internet giant is interested in the perfumery online retailer Flaconi, which previously belonged to the ProSiebenSat.1 media group. The takeover could be worth 800 million euros.
Zalando has sold perfume before, albeit with little success, and the end was sealed with a huge sell-off. Now the online retailer is venturing into the fragrance business once again. The Berlin-based company is apparently interested in the cosmetics and perfume retailer Flaconi, as insiders told the Manager Magazine report. The company is currently owned by the ProSiebenSat.1 Group, which has been hit by coronavirus. The sale could be worth 800 million euros.
There is no comment from the companies. Should Flaconi actually be up for sale, there would also be other interested parties, such as the perfumery chain Douglas or the French cosmetics company Sephora. Flaconi was able to increase its turnover by 50 percent to 300 million euros last year.
A merger of the Zalando and Flaconi brands would be a challenge for Douglas in particular. The company is still ahead in the online perfume business, but with the support of Zalando, Flaconi could catch up.
