New financing round for Wisefood

Cleantech receives a seven-figure sum, including from prominent founders. It plans to use the money to develop new, edible disposable products.
Wisefood gains further prominent investors. The Munich-based start-up has announced that Trivago founder Rolf Schrömgens, Flaconi founders Björn Kolbmüller and Paul Schwarzenholz and venture capitalist Better Ventures are joining the company. They invest a seven-figure sum in the company. Previous shareholders include delivery giant Delivery Hero and former Telegate CEO Andreas Albath.
Wisefood produces edible disposable cutlery and tableware. The company aims to replace plastic products and reduce waste. The team is also currently working on an edible straw. Wisefood cooperates with the Austrian supermarket chain Hofer (part of the Aldi Group), the Swiss retail brand Migros and individual Rewe and Edeka stores in Germany, among others. According to Wisefood, it sells its products in over 30 countries.
"Disposable tableware and products made of plastic are a major driver of global environmental pollution," explained Tina Dreimann from Better Ventures on the occasion of the investment. "With its products, Wisefood is helping to solve this problem sustainably with biodegradable and edible alternatives." The start-up intends to use the capital to expand its product range. The team led by founders Philip Silbernagel, Maximilian Lemke and Patricia Titz is hoping for a boost from the ban on single-use plastic that came into force in the EU this summer.
