Aldi promotes Plant Jammer and Terra Vegane

Aldi is supporting two start-ups in an accelerator funding program that beat out 160 applicants.

The two start-ups Plant Jammer and Terra Vegane will be supported by Aldi for 20 weeks in an accelerator support programme. Aldi North and South will provide the two companies with mentors with whom they can further develop their business model. The discount grocer had more than 160 applicants for the funding program.

Plant Jammer is an app that creates a recipe from various fridge leftovers. This can also be selected on vegan or vegetarian diets or allergies can be taken into account. The start-up was founded in Copenhagen in 2016.

In addition, Terra Vegane is funded. The start-up from Berlin develops vegan meat, cheese and egg alternatives. Since 2013, Terra Vegane has been manufacturing its products in organic quality and by hand in the capital. Instead of eggs, the products contain, for example, chickpeas, amaranth, cassava and the black salt Kala Namak. Aldi wants to include these in its range on a trial basis.

Aldi has been supporting startups since 2018 in a cooperation with the startup accelerator TechFounders. Some of the products have already made it onto the shelves, including straws made from apples and, most recently, a vegan chocolate dessert from the startup Prolupin.
