Snoopstar wins German Brand Award

The start-up has enriched the advertising brochure of the discounter ALDI Süd with augmented reality. There is a prize for the cooperation.

Together with ALDI Süd, the Düsseldorf-based start-up Snoopstar has taken the discounter's advertising brochure into the digital future. With Snoopstar's software, the brochure can also be filmed with a smartphone since October 2020 and additional content can be superimposed via augmented reality. "Until now, retailers faced a problem: they print a prospectus that arouses curiosity, but as soon as the customer Googles it, they no longer have it under control," Snoopstar CEO Bodo Schiefer tells the Handelsblatt.

A prize now beckons for the cooperation with ALDI Süd: The cooperation receives the German Brand Award in Gold. The jury particularly praises the direct linking to the Aldi webshop, which allows Google to be bypassed. "The entire communication takes place in a single brand universe. With Snoopstar, ALDI Süd is positioning itself early on as a first mover in augmented reality in the discount sector."

In the ALDI brochure, videos, recipes, product info or competitions can be superimposed via the mobile phone. "It is our ambition to further increase the attractiveness of our handout, especially for the young target group," says Lars Klein, Managing Director at Aldi Süd to Handelsblatt. "We believe that the optimal combination of learned print and modern digital offerings will be an essential aspect of customer communication in the future."

Other customers of the Düsseldorf-based AR start-up include Henkel, Douglas, WMF and Deutsche Telekom. Snoopstar promises to make the software's success measurable. For Henkel, for example, the start-up has created AR instructions for a hair dye.
