Continental manager supports Scantinel Photonics

Karl Haupt will join the start-up's advisory board. The start-up was only recently able to attract two new investors.
Scantinel Photonics manufactures sensor systems for autonomous driving, the technology behind which is called Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR). The Ulm-based start-up has now appointed Karl Haupt as Chairman of the Advisory Board. Haupt worked at Continental for 36 years, primarily in the field of driver assistance systems. He is now bringing this knowledge to Scantinel Photonics: "We are very pleased and proud to have Karl Haupt on board," says co-founder Andy Zott. "We now have a real insider in our ranks from whose expertise we will benefit."
Scantinel Photonics was only recently able to attract Zeiss Ventures and Scania Growth Capital as investors, and with Haupt, the start-up has now succeeded in bringing a well-known figure from the automotive industry into its own ranks. "I was immediately impressed by Scantinel's technology," says Haupt, explaining his move. "I don't know of any other company that is so far advanced in the development of FMCW lidar systems. I am therefore very happy to contribute my experience here."
Since 2019, Scantinel Photonics has been dedicated to sensors for autonomous driving. For example, they enable obstacle detection and avoidance as well as object detection and tracking with a range of 300 meters. The start-up expects its technology to replace the Time of Light (TOF) systems that are currently frequently used.
