What Gorillas founder Kagan Sümer says about the takeover by Getir

Kagan Sümer had to leave the company he founded after it was taken over by Getir. Nevertheless, he does not see himself as a loser.

Almost two weeks ago, the Turkish delivery service Getir took over the German start-up Gorillas. As a result, founder Kagan Sümer had to leave the company. Now he has spoken publicly for the first time, in a video on LinkedIn that is around 7 minutes long.

It is a personal video, with Sümer standing on a dirt road in the rain. "I am so happy about the past three years in which I was able to build Gorillas with great people, investors, customers and suppliers - I think this has been the highlight of my life so far," says Sümer with a smile on his face, thanking everyone who has supported him. He is optimistic about his personal future and the future of the company he founded.

Media reports had previously portrayed him primarily as the loser of the Gorillas takeover, as Gorilla's valuation had fallen sharply beforehand and Sümer received less money for his start-up than expected. Sümer firmly rejects this portrayal. "There are no winners and losers, at least that's not how it feels to me," he explains. "I believe that these attributions come from people who frame the game differently than people who are in the game."
