Emma makes 405 million euros in sales

Success remains true to the mattress provider: the Frankfurt-based start-up Emma reports a 170 percent increase in sales for the past year.
Mattress maker Emma is reporting its second major sales increase in a row. Last year, the start-up increased its sales by 170 percent to 405 million euros. In 2019, sales were still 150 million euros, and that was already an 80 percent increase.
The start-up Emma was founded in 2013 and has been profitable since 2017, according to its own statements. Core markets are primarily the UK, France and the Netherlands. Only then comes the German market. Since 2017, the start-up has also included the Dunlopilla brand, which was taken over from insolvency and is supplied to specialist retailers.
In 2020, the family-owned company Haniel from Duisburg took over the majority of Emma and bought 50.1 percent of the shares, both parties are silent about the purchase price. Grow the company also wants this year, said founder Manuel Müller in a press conference. He wants to hire 200 employees. The start-up also wants to test a new mattress that can be controlled via smartphone and adapts to sleeping positions.
Emma says it operates in 26 countries and has 500 employees.
