Success continues for the mattress provider: Frankfurt-based start-up Emma reports a 170% increase in turnover for the past year.

Mattress manufacturer Emma reports its second major increase in turnover in a row. Last year, the start-up increased its turnover by 170% to 405 million euros. In 2019, turnover amounted to 150 million euros, which was already an increase of 80%.

The start-up Emma was founded in 2013 and has been profitable since 2017, according to its own information. Its core markets are primarily the UK, France and the Netherlands. The German market comes next. Since 2017, the start-up has also included the Dunlopilla brand, which was taken over from insolvency and supplies specialist retailers.

In 2020, the family-owned company Haniel from Duisburg acquired a majority stake in Emma and purchased 50.1% of the shares; both parties are keeping the purchase price confidential. The company also wants to grow this year, said founder Manuel Müller at a press conference. He wants to hire 200 employees. The start-up also wants to test a new mattress that can be controlled via smartphone and adapts to sleeping positions.

Emma claims to be active in 26 countries and has 500 employees.
