Yodel gets Chinese shareholder

The hyperlocal platform Jodel was able to close a current round of financing. The Chinese group Netease is also getting in on the action, taking over more than 20 percent of the start-up.

Jodel was founded back in 2014, the big hype around the app seemed already over. But now the start-up wins the Chinese group Netease as an investor, which will hold 23 percent of Jodel through a subsidiary in the future. The gaming company Netease is listed on the stock exchange and was valued at 55 billion euros in 2020. In addition, Sweet Capital will become a shareholder. The fund is owned by King.com, developer of the game Candy Crush.

Existing investors are also involved in the current round of financing; the company did not release exact information to Gründerszene

Jodel has raised ten million euros so far, including from Global Founders Capital and Atlantic Internet. According to its own data, seven million people use the hyperlocal platform Jodel, which shows its users only posts from the immediate vicinity. Since 2018, Yodel has also been serving ads.
