In a pre-seed round, the start-up was able to convince Speedinvest, among others, of its idea to retrofit cooling towers in favor of sustainability.

The Berlin-based start-up Neo Carbon has successfully completed its pre-seed financing round and raised 1.25 million euros from investors. The round was led by PropTech1 and Speedinvest, while existing investor Antler also invested new money in the start-up. Business angels on board include the founder of Planetly, Anna Alex, Stefano Bernardi and Matthias Ernst.

The start-up wants to retrofit cooling towers to filter carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. As cooling towers already suck in and circulate a lot of air, the start-up argues that they can be used optimally to filter CO2 as well. This would make it easier to launch on the mass market and help to remove a lot of carbon dioxide from the air.

The start-up is just a few months old. It was only founded in January 2022 by René Haas and Silvain Toromanoff and already claims to be supported by Siemens Energy. CEO René Haas says: "DAC will be an essential tool to offset emissions and our retrofit concept aligns the incentives for the industry with those for the environment and enables economic capture of CO2 on a large scale."

Existing investor Christoph Klink from Antler adds: "It was a great pleasure to see the team capture their first CO2 with an early prototype in our office. The next big milestone will be to see them move to large scale deployment."
