Neo Carbon raises 1.25 million euros

In a pre-seed round, the start-up was able to convince Speedinvest, among others, of its idea to retrofit cooling towers in favor of sustainability.

Berlin-based start-up Neo Carbon successfully closed its pre-seed funding round, raising €1.25 million from investors. The round was led by PropTech1 and Speedinvest, in addition to which existing investor Antler, among others, injected new money into the start-up. Among others, the founder of Planetly, Anna Alex, Stefano Bernardi and Matthias Ernst are on board as business angels.

The start-up wants to retrofit cooling towers to filter carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Since cooling towers already suck in and circulate a lot of air, they can be optimally used to filter CO2 as well, the startup argues. That would make it easier to introduce to the mass market and help remove a lot of carbon dioxide from the air.

The start-up is just a few months old. It was only founded in January 2022 by René Haas and Silvain Toromanoff and says it already has the support of Siemens Energy. CEO René Haas says, "DAC will be an essential tool for offsetting emissions, and our retrofit concept aligns the incentives for industry with those for the environment, enabling economic capture of CO2 at scale."

Inventory investor Christoph Klink of Antler added, "It was a great pleasure to see the team capture its first CO2 with an early prototype in our office. The next big milestone will be to see them move to full-scale deployment."
