Starflight Dynamics receives BAAINBw research contract

ReaGAn aims to create a new generation of orbital propulsion systems. The aim is technological sovereignty, military operational capability and industrial future security in Europe.
News by Marc Nemitz Marc Nemitz · München, 31. July 2025

The Munich-based new space startup Starflight Dynamics has been commissioned by the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) with a research project to develop a new type of orbital propulsion technology. The aim of the ReaGAn - Reactive Green Propulsion Technology project is to set new standards for high-performance, environmentally friendly propulsion systems in orbit.

Sustainable mobility in space

Feasibility studies, test setups and technical trials are to be carried out as part of the ReaGAn project. The focus is on a new generation of orbital propulsion systems that are specially designed for flexible, fast-reacting and long-lasting use in space. In addition to civil applications, safety-related use also plays a central role.

The solution developed by Starflight Dynamics is based on a water-based, reactive propulsion approach. It is an environmentally friendly alternative concept to conventional propellants in orbit.

Defense-related applications and technological sovereignty

The project aims to create specific capabilities for the Bundeswehr and its partners. These include

  • High endurance and maneuverability in orbit
  • Fast, precise deployment and repositioning of satellites
  • Dual-use capable platforms for security-critical missions
  • Contribution to European technological sovereignty in space

We would like to thank the BAAINBw and the Wehrtechnische Dienststelle 61 for their trust and look forward to contributing to the next generation of orbital capabilities with ReaGAn.

About the startup

Founded in Munich in 2023, Starflight Dynamics (SFDY) aims to bring industrial applications into space. The company focuses on two core technologies:

  1. Orbital platforms with water-based propulsion systems: applications range from defense to inspection and service missions in orbit.
  2. Crystallization systems for semiconductor and quantum substrates: materials that have significantly better structures in zero gravity than on Earth.

With a team of ten specialists from aerospace, defense and materials science, SFDY develops exclusively in the EU, with the aim of securing Europe's technological sovereignty in space. We recently announced a a seven-figure pre-seed for the startup on the Startbase.
