Volocopter secures manufacturer license

The air cab start-up buys DG Flugzeugbau and receives the necessary manufacturer's license. Two steps are still missing before the first commercial flying cab.
The flying cab company Volocopter from Bruchsal has taken over its long-standing production partner, DG Flugzeugbau. The company manufactures small aircraft and gliders. The purchase price was not disclosed. Volocopter is thus also taking over the necessary manufacturer's license from the European Aviation Safety Agency. With this new license, Volocopter is preparing for commercial air taxi services. However, two licenses are still missing for the service. Following a final decision by the European authority, however, the gates to the world will be open to the Hessians. This is because the licenses are recognized in many markets in Asia and North America.
"Our ten-year partnership with DG Flugzeugbau has been a great success," says Florian Reuter, CEO of Volocopter. "The expertise of our legendary partner has been groundbreaking on our journey to build a new form of sustainable and affordable mobility for people and goods." Volocopter still intends to fulfill the existing orders. The teams of both companies - DG FLugzeugbau currently employs 40 people - will be merged. Both companies designed and built the VC200, the first electrically powered multicopter, which first flew autonomously in Dubai in 2017.
