Why did you start your start-up, which problem do you address and how do you solve it?

Many innovative applications like autonomous vehicles or smart cities require huge amounts of camera data. This raises serious privacy concerns - especially as face recognition technology becomes more advanced. Since blurred analysis and machine learning does not work, we have developed Deep Natural Anonymization. Our software generates artificial objects such as faces and license plates to enable privacy protection as well as analysis and AI.

How did you get the idea to start your start-up?

We were working on computer vision solutions to improve cameras and needed publicly recorded training data. But with GDPR this was not easy to get and we saw a great chance to solve the mentioned problem: to have either usable data or privacy. It quickly became clear that this is a big problem that many companies face.

What is special about your business model, what do you do differently?

When we talk about AI and start-ups today, most people think that privacy is a problem for us in Europe. We have combined the two issues to create something new - a data protection solution based on AI. Our solution is one of the first commercial applications worldwide based on generative neural networks.

What has been your greatest success so far?

Apart from developing a data protection solution that enables companies to process camera data with more social responsibility, it was great for us to be named Europe's Hottest AI Startup by Nvidia!

What is the next challenge for you?

As we recently closed a multi-million Euro financing round, our biggest need right now is to find outstanding people to join our diverse team and take Brighter AI to the next level.

What would you recommend to other founders?

If you see a great opportunity, you should work hard at it, no matter how crazy it sounds at first. Social influence is also important!

Where did you meet as a team?

Our founders Marian and Patrick got to know each other during an autonomous drivers meeting initiated by Patrick. Afterwards they worked together in the incubator of the car company HELLA, where Brighter AI was spun off.

Where do you see your startup in 3 years?

With the latest financing, the team is now rapidly growing to more than 30 employees. As far as customers are concerned, we are expanding beyond our first focus: "Vertical Automotive" into areas such as public transport. In 3 years we want to be recognized as the standard for image data acquisition in the public domain. We could also have a satellite office - most likely in the US, where data protection regulations will become stricter next year.

Do you have an office cat / dog / turtle...?

A turtle sounds great! But right now the occasional squirrel on our terrace is enough entertainment.
