Berlin-based venture capital provider Cherry Ventures is launching a new fund worth 300 million euros: "Cherry IV". It is the company's largest fund to date and is intended to support start-ups in the pre-seed and seed phase. The VC intends to set aside around 60 percent of the capital for follow-up investments in order to support founders over several phases.
The money will primarily flow into the areas of crypto technology, food, retail, software, climate technology and fintechs, according to the Handelsblatt reports. The investments are said to be based on three so-called "investment hypotheses": Firstly, Cherry Ventures believes that every company will become a fintech in the future and therefore wants to focus on this area. Secondly, the VC is interested in NFT innovations because people want to own things in the digital world. The third hypothesis is that the time has now come for climate technology and that corresponding projects will now be better able to find follow-on investors.
Cherry Ventures is primarily backed by former Zalando managers Filip Dames and Christian Meermann. The VC has invested in well-known companies such as Flixbus, Auto1 Group, Flaschenpost, Infarm, Rows, Forto, Sellerx, Juni and Flink. Cherry Ventures has already been involved in the seed phases of over 70 companies throughout Europe. The VC started in Berlin and is now also represented in London and Stockholm.
