Berlin-based venture capitalist Cherry Ventures is launching a new fund worth 300 million euros: the "Cherry IV". It is the firm's largest fund to date and is designed to support startups in the pre-seed and seed stages. The VC intends to set aside around 60 percent of the capital for follow-on investments, thus supporting founders over several phases.

The money is expected to flow primarily into crypto technology, food, retail, software, climate technology, as well as fintechs, as the Handelsblatt reports. According to the report, the investments are to be based on three so-called "investment hypotheses": first, Cherry Ventures believes that in the future every company will become a fintech and therefore wants to focus on this area. In addition, the VC is interested in NFT innovations because people want to own things in the digital world. The third hypothesis states that the time for climate technology has now come and corresponding projects will now find follow-up investors better.

Cherry Ventures is backed primarily by former Zalando managers Filip Dames and Christian Meermann. The VC has invested in well-known companies such as Flixbus, Auto1 Group, Flaschenpost, Infarm, Rows, Forto, Sellerx, Juni or Flink. Cherry Ventures has already been involved in the seed phases of over 70 companies across Europe. The VC started in Berlin and is now also represented in London and Stockholm.
