Berlin is one of the world's most attractive locations for start-ups

The online platform Oberlo has compared the conditions for start-ups in 200 cities. Three German cities made it into the top 75.

Where are the best conditions for starting a business? A study by the online platform Oberlo evaluated factors such as infrastructure, digitalization and financing in 200 cities and economic centers and compiled a ranking. A German city also narrowly made it into the top ten: Berlin came in ninth place.

The German capital even came fifth for support during the coronavirus pandemic, seventh for access to international markets, eighth for logistics environment and ninth for technology. Berlin performed worst in the human capital category in the technology sector, where it only achieved 24th place.

In addition to Berlin, two other German cities were also ranked: Munich came 19th and Hamburg 24th. Hamburg performed very well in the international competition in the logistics environment category, taking fifth place behind Hong Kong, Singapore, Antwerp and Amsterdam.

A total of 75 places were awarded, with a European capital taking first place: London performed particularly well in terms of venture capital and logistics environment. The top ten is dominated by American cities: New York took second place, San Francisco third, Los Angeles landed in sixth place, Boston came in eighth and Chicago was awarded tenth place.
