Berlin-Pankow takes action against gorillas

In Berlin, there is more and more resistance against the delivery service. Now the district of Pankow is initiating proceedings against the start-up.

Not everyone likes the 10-minute delivery service Gorillas: the Berlin district of Pankow now wants to take legal action against the start-up. "We will always step on Gorillas' toes," says Ordnungsstadtrat Daniel Krüger (AfD), writes the Berlin Morgenpost. The district is initiating administrative offence proceedings. Gorillas has until mid-June for a statement.

The problem: "Sidewalks are probably used specifically for the storage and transshipment of goods," says Krüger of the Morgenpost. "A private logistics center on our sidewalks is not permissible and not right," says Maximilian Schirmer (Die Linke), chairman of the Pankow economic committee, the Morgenpost. The veterinary office is now to check whether the warehouse on the street is also perishable food. Gorillas has promised the Ordnungsamt of Pankow full cooperation. The start-up wants to remedy the deficiencies.

However, the problems are not unique to Pankow. All six Berlin districts except Mitte report complaints about Gorillas, reports Gründerszene. In the capital, Gorillas maintains 15 so-called hubs, from which the orders are delivered. Again and again there are complaints about parked bicycles on the sidewalk, about the "inconsiderate driving of bicycle couriers against the direction of travel". Corona rules are also said to not always be followed. There are said to be too many people in the camps, often without distance and without masks. Drivers who wait outside the camp because of this often trigger complaints of disturbance, writes Gründerszene. In the other cities where Gorillas is active, there are apparently no complaints so far.
