Beyond Black becomes Extantia Capital - and brings in new partner from the World Economic Forum

The Berlin Climate-Tech VC is rebranding. Laura-Marie Töpfer, previously responsible for the Uplink platform at the World Economic Forum, is a new member.

The VC Beyond Black has given itself a new name. From now on, the venture capitalist specializing in climate tech start-ups is called Extantia Capital. At the same time, Extantia presents a new addition.

Effective immediately, Laura-Marie Töpfer is a partner at the Berlin-based firm. Töpfer was previously active at the World Economic Forum. There she built the Uplink platform, which aims to bring together start-ups and decision-makers from the climate protection sector. "Technologies for significant CO2 reduction that also meet market demands with scalable business models are the key to effective climate protection. This is my conviction and also that of Extantia Capital," explained Töpfer.

"Laura-Marie Töpfer is the perfect addition to our team of partners," said Sebastian Heitmann, founder of Extantia Capital. "With her international experience at the intersection of venture capital and sustainability policy, as well as her scientific background in environmental and social impacts of investments, we are looking to enter new markets."

Extantia invests globally in startups that aim to support the decarbonization of the economy. To date, the venture capitalist has invested in geothermal start-up GA Drilling, chemical company Bloom and battery recycling company Betteries, among others.
