Block wants to expand in Europe

The start-up hires a new boss. The financial start-up is also hiring more employees in Berlin.
The US financial start-up Block, which was still called Square before December 2021, was founded in 2009 by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. Now that he has resigned from Twitter, he has decided to expand Block's cash app to Europe. So far, the app can only be used in the UK and the USA.
Dorsey is now hiring additional employees for his project in his Berlin office, according to Finance Forward reports. An office of the streaming service Tidal, which Dorsey bought, is currently based there. Two positions have now also been advertised for Block's cash app.
According to the media report, Dorsey has also looked for a new European head for his Cash app: Siobhán O'Connor was previously digital manager at Etsy, where she played an important role for the German market. Among other things, she was responsible for integrating the payment systems of German provider Dawanda into Etsy. Now she is to drive forward the European expansion of Dorsey's company.
The Cash app is one of the most successful financial apps in the world. It allows users to transfer money to each other. Shares and cryptocurrencies can now also be traded. A Cash Card has also been available for some time, which customers can use to withdraw money from ATMs. The company has been preparing its European expansion since 2020.
