Broswarm has secured first place in the NATO innovation competition with the X-Ray Eagle. The novel technology offers 3D visualization and thus enables fast and safe mine clearance

VILNIUS, Lithuania, November 5, 2024 - Defence tech startup Broswarm has received €800,000 in a funding round from ScaleWolf, a hybrid defense technology accelerator and fund. This investment will accelerate the development of Broswarm's proprietary X-Ray Eagle sensor. This technology enables high-precision 3D images from a height of up to ten meters and is to be used in mine clearance, including in Ukraine. Broswarm has already secured first place in the NATO Innovation Challenge with the X-Ray Eagle.

Mine detection: a technology with an urgent need

Despite major investments in mine clearance, outdated technology continues to delay progress in war zones. In Ukraine, around 30% of the country is potentially contaminated with mines, severely affecting agriculture, infrastructure and troop movements. Broswarms X-Ray Eagle sensor uses advanced radio waves to create 3D images up to 0.5 meters below the surface and can operate from higher positions than conventional sensors. This technology promises a drastic reduction in false alarms and faster mine clearance.

The X-Ray Eagle delivers precision and depth detection that fundamentally changes mine detection.

NATO award-winning technology

Ernestas Žvaigždinas, CEO and co-founder of Broswarm, said: "Our tests in Ukraine have shown that terrain and vegetation make the detection of underground objects extremely difficult. The X-Ray Eagle delivers precision and depth detection that fundamentally changes mine detection. The images provided by our sensor are so detailed that they almost look like photographs and enable a quick assessment."

Edvinas Skerza, Managing Partner at ScaleWolf and former Deputy Minister of Defense of Lithuania, emphasized the importance of this technology: "Landmine detection is a priority for governments worldwide. With the NATO award, Broswarm is well positioned to make a significant contribution to global security. The X-Ray Eagle supports both safe clearance and troop movements in mine areas."

Next steps and plans

Thanks to the funding, Broswarm can now accelerate research and development work, secure patents and conduct further field tests over the next twelve months. The aim is to have a prototype ready for large-scale use.
