Federal Ministry of Finance considers Spacs "sensible" - but warns of risks

A question from the Green parliamentary group shows how Olaf Scholz's office assesses the current Spac boom. The answer is ambiguous - probably also because only a few Spacs have so far fallen within the remit of the ministry.
The Federal Ministry of Finance considers Spacs to be a "sensible addition" to existing financing options, but also warns of the risks that these shell companies entail. This emerges from an answer from the ministry to a question from Green MP Danyal Bayaz, which was first reported by Gründerszene first reported.
On the one hand, the Federal Ministry sees the risk that investors will agree to a company takeover without being sufficiently informed. On the other hand, there is a risk of conflicts of interest among the sponsors involved. "The financial supervisory authority Bafin and the Federal Ministry of Finance would do well to evaluate the developments very carefully. Risks for investors must be clearly identified and potential must be exploited in the best possible way," Danyal Bayaz also told Gründerszene.
In the USA, there has been a real Spac boom for several months, which the stock exchange supervisory authority there now wants to stifle for the time being with the help of new accounting regulations. In Germany, at least the Ministry of Finance does not yet seem to see any need for action. So far, only two Spacs have been launched on a German stock exchange: one by Lakestar founder Klaus Hommels and one by heads from the Rocket Internet environment.
