Christ cooperates with Hamburg-based blockchain start-up

The jeweler now offers the possibility to store a message on a blockchain with its jewelry. For this, Christ is working together with a Hamburg-based start-up.
The jeweler Christ cooperates with the start-up Foreverontheblockchain - whereby the name reveals the business concept:. The Hamburgers perpetuate messages in a blockchain, which at Christ is linked to the purchase of jewelry. Thus, a message can also be recorded to the wedding rings. In 340 characters "for eternity" or as an "infinite moment" with 6,000 characters, the entry can be stored on the blockchain.
The start-up was founded by Sven Hildebrandt, who was inspired by the love locks that now hang on bridges and railings in every German city. Through mutual contacts, Christ CEO and Hildebrandt found each other and entered into the partnership. After the idea was born, it took a year to make the implementation possible. Then, staff at the jeweler's stores had to be trained to explain the blockchain message offering, as Hildebrandt tells the Wirtschaftswoche explains.
The advantage of the blockchain message: it is virtually impossible to delete, so it really is a message "for eternity". The start-up compensates the very resource-consuming technology with one planted tree per message. Currently, the offer is only available in stores.
Christ has existed since 1863 and belonged to Douglas since 1995, which sold the jewelry chain to financial investor 3i in 2014.
