Berlin, October 23, 2024 - Dunia Innovations GmbH, a startup in AI-powered materials discovery, has raised $11.5 million in a funding round. The round was led by Elaia and redalpine. Other investors include EIC, Pace Ventures, Kindred Capital, Deep Science Ventures, Anglo American and industry specialists.
Driving the energy transition
Dunia, founded in 2022, combines science-based AI algorithms with a self-driving lab to significantly accelerate the discovery of new materials. The focus is on electrocatalysts for the production of green hydrogen and ammonia as well as the conversion of CO2 into advanced chemical products. Dunia's platform aims to accelerate the global transition to low-carbon fuels and chemicals.
The discovery of novel catalysts for sustainable fuels is crucial to reduce dependence on petrochemical products. Dunia is revolutionizing the traditional research process through its AI-powered laboratory platform.

Focus on electrocatalysts
Catalysts are central to 90% of today's chemical processes and play a key role in the energy transition. The global market for electrochemical technologies is estimated to be worth 1.5 trillion dollars by 2050. Dunia's self-driving lab aims to shorten the development cycle of new materials from several decades to less than three years.
Solving this problem requires the combination of machine learning and chemical robotics. This will allow us to iterate faster and generate high quality data, which will dramatically accelerate material discovery.
Dr. Alexander Hammer, co-founder of Dunia
Revolutionary platform
Traditional chemical research is characterized by slow Design, Make, Test, Analyze (DMTA) cycles. Dunia uses advanced chemical robotic workflows and proprietary quantum technology to optimize this process. The combination of proprietary data sets and AI-powered material discovery gives Dunia an advantage over conventional approaches.
Digitalization is revolutionizing materials science. Dunia is poised to lead this transformation in clean energy and materials discovery.
Professor Lee Cronin, founder of Chemify
Market opportunities and sustainability
With its technology, Dunia aims to decarbonize the chemical industry and make a significant contribution to the global Net Zero strategy. With significant funding from institutions such as IBB, the EIC Accelerator and programs such as NZTC's TechX Clean Energy Accelerator, Dunia is seen as a pioneer in the industry.
Founding team and expert support
Dunia's founding team brings together experts in the fields of chemistry, machine learning and robotics. The company is supported by industry giants such as Dr. Udo Jung (BCG), Dr. Chris Gibson (Recursion), Prof. Lee Cronin (Chemify) and Dr. Carlos Haertel (Climeworks). Dunia has already successfully tested its technology in the formulation of electrocatalysts, outperforming human researchers in terms of speed and performance.
