The Swedish EnergyTech startup Green Voltis has raised 13.5 million euros in a Series A funding round. Lochpine Capital is the sole investor. With its AI-based platform, the company optimizes battery storage and electricity trading in Europe. In the future, Green Voltis plans to use its technology to power AI data centers, thereby connecting two rapidly growing markets.

The expansion of renewable energy is posing increasing challenges for Europe’s power grids. Wind and solar plants generate power based on weather conditions, while the electricity needs of businesses and households must be met continuously. Battery storage is therefore becoming increasingly important for balancing out fluctuations and providing energy flexibly.

This is precisely where the Stockholm-based startup Green Voltis comes in. The company develops AI-powered solutions that enable battery storage systems and combined renewable energy plants to be operated more efficiently and marketed on the electricity market.

To support its further expansion, Green Voltis has now raised 13.5 million euros in a Series A funding round. The entire amount comes from the investor Lochpine Capital.

According to the company, it already manages battery storage capacities of more than 1.2 gigawatt-hours that are contractually committed and in operation. Green Voltis has market access in ten European countries or is working to establish it there.

AI Optimizes Electricity Trading and Battery Storage

Green Voltis’ business model goes beyond simply marketing stored energy. The company supports storage projects from grid connection through technical commissioning to automated trading on European electricity markets.

To this end, Green Voltis has developed two proprietary technologies. The Chronos energy management system controls battery storage systems and ensures compliance with technical grid requirements. It is complemented by Aether AI, an AI-based trading agent that forecasts electricity prices and combines various marketing opportunities.

The software takes into account, among other things, day-ahead, intraday, and balancing power markets. Rather than using the available storage capacity exclusively for a single market, the AI is designed to optimize various revenue streams simultaneously.

This capability is becoming increasingly important, especially in light of short-term price fluctuations. According to the company, the facilities managed by Green Voltis consistently outperform Clean Horizon’s independent industry benchmark index.

In addition, the startup offers various contract models, including revenue-sharing arrangements and guaranteed minimum revenues. These are designed to help operators better plan their revenues and facilitate the financing of new storage projects.

From Battery Storage to Powering AI Data Centers

With the fresh capital, Green Voltis aims to tap into another business segment. Under the name “Power-to-Compute,” the company plans to apply its technologies to power data centers.

This move is driven by the rapidly rising electricity demand caused by artificial intelligence. Large data centers, in particular, require substantial amounts of energy, while new grid connections in European metropolitan areas can sometimes take several years to complete.

Green Voltis therefore aims to integrate data centers into the power grid as flexible energy consumers. The existing technology for controlling battery storage systems is intended to help better align electricity demand with grid capacities.

According to the company, it already has a project pipeline for this business segment comprising approximately 120 megawatts of developed sites or sites earmarked for power supply in Scandinavia. Development is to take place in collaboration with data center operators.

The funding will also be used to further develop the two technology platforms, Aether AI and Chronos, and to expand the company’s presence in key European markets.

For co-founder and CEO Martin Kievit, the company’s future lies at the intersection of energy supply and artificial intelligence. The technology used to control battery storage systems could, in the future, also coordinate the energy needs of large data centers.

It remains to be seen whether this model will catch on on a larger scale. However, Green Voltis is positioning itself in a market where two key developments are converging: the expansion of flexible power infrastructure and the growing energy demand of the AI industry.
