E.Go wants to build cars in Bulgaria

The Aachen-based e-car start-up is leaving Germany for its main production. Having overcome insolvency, E.Go is now planning a company in Bulgaria.
E-car manufacturer E.Go is leaving Germany and plans to move its main production to Bulgaria. This was announced by Bulgarian Economy Minister Kiril Petkov in a statement. The carmaker has had a whirlwind year: last summer E.Go filed for insolvency, Dutch investors rescued the Aachen-based start-up, last month founder Günther Schuh left the company and there were rumours of an IPO via Spac.
E.Go is investing the equivalent of 143 million euros in the new company in the Bulgarian city of Lowetsch. Annually, 30,000 vehicles of the models e.GO Life 70, e.GO Life Sport and e.GO Life Cross are to be built from there. Suppliers will include the German companies Bosch, ZF and Continental. The aluminium frame, cables and software, on the other hand, will be manufactured and programmed in Bulgaria. Minister Petkov promised a "record time" in the construction of the company. The first e-cars are expected to roll off the production line as early as the end of next year.
