Exclusive: Mädchenflohmarkt closes financing round

According to the Stuttgart-based start-up, it is now profitable and has gained another investor.
Christian Wegner, founder of Momox and co-founder of Wisemarkt, is now supporting the online second-hand marketplace Mädchenflohmarkt. Startbase has learned that the Stuttgart-based start-up has completed a financing round. Wegner is leading this round, with money also coming from existing investors Vorwerk Ventures and Catalpa.
"Mädchenflohmarkt already plays an important role in the re-commerce market. We share a common vision and I am delighted to accompany them on their journey from now on," says Christian Wegner about his investment decision. Founded in 2012, the start-up offers around one million items for sale via its online second-hand marketplace.
Mädchenflohmarkt claims to have reached break-even in the current financial year. The company now has a turnover in the double-digit millions, overall growth of 50 percent and employs around 150 people across Europe. "Christian Wegner's investment in Mädchenflohmarkt is a real accolade. For me, there is no one in Germany who has shaped the topic of re-commerce as much as he has," says co-founder Peter Ambrozy.
